The Narrations of Adam ibn Abi Iyas in Al-Sunan Al-Kubra by Al-Nasa’i – Compilation and Study –

مرويات آدم بن ابي إياس في السنن الكبرى للنسائيجمعا ودراسة –

The study of the Prophetic Hadith occupies a high position in Islamic sciences, being the second source of Islamic legislation after the Holy Quran. The significance of Hadith emerges not only from the transmission of texts but also requires precise verification of their authenticity through the study of the chains of transmission (isnad) and the texts themselves (matn). The science of “al-Jarh wa al-Ta’dil” (the science of criticism and accreditation) is among the most crucial disciplines serving the Hadith. It focuses on studying the conditions of narrators regarding their reliability and accuracy to ensure their truthfulness and trustworthiness in transmitting Hadith. This science contributes to building trust in the transmission of the Prophetic Sunnah and protects it from distortion and falsification.

This research aims to highlight the status of one of the Hadith narrators, Imam Adam ibn Abi Iyas al-Asqalani, who has not been independently written about extensively, nor about his narrations in general, as will be clarified in the previous studies section. The research involves a thorough study and judgment of his narrations. Thus, a comprehensive study of all his narrations in the six major Hadith books was necessary first. Afterward, his narrations in the “al-Sunan al-Kubra,” which is less authentic and strong than the six major Hadith books and contains both authentic and weak narrations, were examined.

The first chapter addresses his biography, including his name, kunyah (nickname), title, upbringing, teachers from whom he acquired knowledge, and students who learned from him, along with the biographies of the most important teachers and students. It was found that he learned from trustworthy individuals and was heard by trustworthy individuals.

The research aims to show the status of the narrator Adam ibn Abi Iyas among the scholars of “al-Jarh wa al-Ta’dil,” understand what they said about him, and determine his rank as assessed by the major scholars of this field. The study sheds light on the narrations of Imam Adam ibn Abi Iyas al-Asqalani in the “al-Sunan al-Kubra” by al-Nasa’i, compiling the narrations, extracting them, studying their chains of transmission comprehensively, and passing judgments on them.
