Algeria is among the countries in which the French colonial administration achieved population censuses between 1830 and 1962, and began in-depth statistical monitoring operations since 1830, which produced documents of a systematic and relatively comprehensive approach to various aspects of economic, political, social, as well as historical life. These censuses focused on the different population in terms of culture, language, religion, and the way of life. After Algeria’s independence, five censuses were carried out between 1966 and 2008; however, the national statistics office does not publish reports on its methodology.
