The study aimed to identify the relationship of using social media platforms on the Big Five personality factors. The study adopted the descriptive-correlational method and used the following tools: a social media usage scale consisting of 22 items, and a Big Five personality factors scale consisting of 47 items. The study sample consisted of 1,178 male and female students, with a total of 588 male students and 590 female students in secondary schools in the directorates of Sha’oub, Al-Thawra, Al-Tahrir, and Bani Al-Harith in Sana’a Capital Secretariat. Appropriate statistical methods were used, and the study reached several results, including:
The level of social media usage among high school students in the capital city was weak, with an average score of 2.57. However, the level of the Big Five personality traits among high school students in the capital city was high, with an average score of 3.89. The study results also showed a correlation between social media usage and the Big Five personality traits among high school students. There were statistically significant differences between social media usage and the Big Five personality traits among the study sample, attributed to the gender variable (male, female), with females having an advantage.
