The lllusion of Civilization

وهم الحضارة

“The Illusion of Civilization” is the title we chose for our research due to the problematic understanding of the concept of civilization in its true form. Some have considered the manifestations of urbanization, development, and technological advancement as expressions of civilization. However, true civilization requires both a value-based intellectual aspect and a material aspect. In my research, I employed a descriptive-analytical approach to resolve this confusion in understanding the concept of civilization. Civilization is an indivisible whole, like a bird that cannot fly with one wing. Civilization is like a towering building: some parts are hidden, like the foundation on which the building stands, and some are visible, such as the architecture and engineering. Similarly, the hidden part of civilization is knowledge and understanding, while the visible part is the translation of this knowledge into refined interactions based on balanced values, customs, and ethics, as well as developments in various aspects of life, including urban, service, political, economic, and social domains. All that we see is a reflection of the products of thought.

Today’s proponents of modernization promote an idea contrary to the facts. The phenomenon of material development without a system of ethical and value-based principles, as seen in the West, does not truly represent the correct concept of civilization. Additionally, some countries exploit their natural resources, given to them by God, creating material wealth that enables them to import the manifestations of civilization without benefiting from the ideas that created them. Despite people’s fascination with these material manifestations, they do not accurately reflect the true concept of civilization. All this prompted me to write my research “The Illusion of Civilization” to clarify the matter. The research concluded that the concept of civilization is based on two pillars: the intellectual-value aspect and the material aspect. The new world order, which attempts to separate civilization from its value-based aspect, emerged because their civilization was founded on principles contrary to human nature and creed, allowing them to spread corruption and chaos, thus facilitating the theft of nations’ wealth and control over them under the pretense of globalization and the idea that the world is a single village.
