The “imaginary” image and its cultural connotations in contemporary plastic art

الصورة “الخيالية” ودلالاتها الثقافية في الفن التشكيلي المعاصر

In the context of demonstrating the connection between the image and imagination and its cultural connotations, this research paper revolved around a complex research problem that hinged upon two hypotheses. The first investigated the role of imagination in providing knowledge while the second explored the possibility of yielding cultural knowledge to fictional experiments.

In order to confirm the first one, we examined the concept of imagination through different cultural strands that ascertained the fact that it was more than mere shapes decorating a painting. It was rather another insight to unveil the invisible side of the world.

We tried to affirm the second hypothesis through exploring the existing cultural tools in artworks. The research findings showed that when the artist abstained from the figurative image, he ventured an unfamiliar world to offer an artistic lesson. This later called for other knowledge areas to analyze, interpret and infer the conceptual connotations of artworks.
