This research and field of study aims to address the issue of the Dome of the Rock, as it is located within the wall of Al-Aqsa Mosque. It goes without saying that this splendid and sublime place has an excellent and endless bless for what lies there within this mesmerizing and holy place yet beyond.
This research included a full study of the status of the Rock according to the three laws and doctrines, then studying the construction during that time of the Umayyad dynasty, the restoration during the time of the Abbasid dynasty, then going to a comparison between the two states and two countries in terms of interest as each has its own distinction and style then going into the refutation of some of the narratives and reasons that prompted Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan to build and structure the Dome of the Rock Mosque. Explaining these realistic reasons that prompted him to build it, as well as refuting the authenticity of the inscription that attributes to the construction of the Dome of the Rock Mosque to the Abbasid Caliph Al-Ma’mun and finally clarifying the full story of the hole which can be found in the rock.
As these results were concluded the most significant outcome which can be noted as for the one who was able to build and establish this fabulous structure regarding the Dome of the Rock Mosque was called Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan.
This structure simply signifies and indicates that the building would be able to bear a firm and a solid witness to the Islamic nature of Jerusalem at that time and that Muslims had their own architectural and decorative style keeping in mind the unique manner of building and edifice as the Abbasids’ interest was limited to some of the restorations which were carried out by a number of caliphs at that time of period.
In this field of search and study regarding this matter as sources led us to go in depth and uncover this wonderful field of study and research.
