Immigration is associated with a lot of issues which includes but is not limited to, culture shock, language barriers, social isolation and economic hardships. The refugee families, who leave their country and everything behind, have trouble adjusting in the new environment. The cultural differences and adjustment issues faced by the Syrian refugees in the host Western European countries are to be studied in this paper.
This paper has an assessment component, which measures the educational, and income levels of the refugees prior to arriving in the host country. It also seeks to understand what and how a difference could be made in making the refugee families feel more welcomed and adjust better in their new surroundings. The assessment targeted Syrians residing within the host community in Western Europe and included 54 participants.
The instruments used is online questionnaire to be filled by refugees. Fifty-four refugees, women and men, participated in survey. in this paper we focus on the English proficiency and education levels, income levels and employment status as these aspects form an important segment of settling down and mingling with the existent culture.
