Cybercrime is one of the most prominent and dangerous security challenges facing all societies in the world in the field of information and communications technology uses across public and private sector institutions and individuals. There are two types of electronic crimes the first: crimes directed against the computer or information and communication technology systems, and the second type: those crimes in which the computer is a means of committing crimes of fraud, theft of identities, credit cards, and financial balances, forgery, embezzlement, theft of intellectual property rights, extortion, deviant behavior, and sexual exploitation of children. In addition to promoting extremist ideas and supporting and financing terrorism.
Cybercrime rates have been rising since the 1990s, and crimes and their financial losses have doubled after the number of Internet users reached 40% of the world’s population in 2014. Financial losses were estimated at $450 billion and the number of victims was 556 million. Cybercrime has become a real threat to information security and a source of danger to national security and international peace and security.
The study addressed the topic: What is cybercrime, its causes, types and effects on the theft of data and information, and ways to combat it. The research adopted the descriptive method.
