The self in the narrative occupies a different horizon; it is a being, essence, and consciousness, which may sometimes coincide with the author’s own experience, but it does not limit itself to the role of a mirror where it becomes just individual reflections, but works with determination to define the essence of the existential problem and interpret it in a holistic and cosmic way.
Consciousness deals in the narrative context to a large extent with the problem of the search for the self and identity. The philosophical insights in the novel reflect how the individual can understand himself in the context of society and culture.
In the novels of Najib al-Kilani, consciousness intersects with the problem of the search for the self and identity. This results in a deep analysis of the nature of man and his place in the world, which contributes to providing complex insights into what it means to be an individual in a changing society and a history that is undergoing continuous transformations.
This study aims to shed light on the consciousness of the characters in their search for the self in the novel “The Eternal Call” by Najib al-Kilani.
