Response of Two Moringa Species Seeds to Growth-Stimulating Bacteria, and Seedlings Growth Two of Humic-Acid Fertilizers

Abstract

Tropical trees spread in hot and humid tropical regions. The nature of the environment in Iraq and the Gulf region differs from the tropical region, with high temperatures and dry weather. The study aims to try to germinate the seeds of tropical trees in the environment of Iraq.  An experiment was conducted in the greenhouse for two Moringa cultivars. The experiment included a test of adding two types of bacterial inoculum (Bacillus subtilis and Azotobacter chroococum) to know their effect on the germination of the seeds of two Moringa cultivars, M. peregrina and M. oleifera, with a bacterial stimulation on the seeds’ germination. Also, this study searches the effect of each one of the (imported) Turkish Humic acid fertilizer (Ht), the locally manufactured fertilizer (H), and without fertilizer (H0), and its role in the growth of sprouts of the two Moringa cultivars. The measurements were taken at two separate times one after 30 days and the second after 60 days of planting. The results showed the superiority of the bacteria B. subtilis species with a significant difference of increasing the values of all measured features (ratio of the field emergence, the seedling’s length, the number of leaves, and the seedling thickness), compared with A. chroococum. The results showed a significant increase in all features when adding locally manufactured Humic acid to M. oleifera cultivar, while the results varied with M. peregrine cultivar, as it was not significant when adding the local Humic. The increase in value was significant for the treatment without adding Humic acid. Field measurements were also taken for comparison on two periods after 30 and 60 days of planting. The results showed the possibility of germination and growth of Moringa seeds by using some bacterial species and manufactured organic fertilizers, which increases their tolerance to environmental conditions different from their original environment.
