The research was conducted to investigate the effect of adding Vitis vinifera L leaf extract and powder on the germination and growth of Vicia faba L. (Vicia faba L.). The aim of this study was to search for natural plant-based materials that can be used as environmentally friendly growth stimulants. The study included laboratory experiments on the aqueous extract of the plant to assess its impact on the germination of Vicia faba L seeds at different concentrations (20%, 30%, 40%), with distilled water used as a control. Additionally, experiments were conducted by adding leaf powder to the soil at rates of (8, 16, 32 g).
The results showed a stimulation in the germination rate with the aqueous extract, and the addition of Vitis viniferaL powder to the soil led to a proportional increase in the length of the shoot and root, the fresh and dry weight of the shoot and root, the leaf area, the amounts of chlorophyll A and B, as well as the sugars, especially in treatment 3 (32 g per kg of soil). Vitis vinifera L leaves are a rich source of phenolic compounds, proanthocyanidins, and catechin. According to previous studies, Vitis vinifera L. leaves also contain important elements for plant growth such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and iron, which positively reflected on the morphological traits of the plant.
In general, we can summarize the results of this study by stating that the higher concentrations of Vitis vinifera L leaf extract studied had positive effects on the germination of Vicia faba L. seeds, and the leaf powder had positive effects on all aspects of the plant’s growth .
