Fisheries play key roles in the human food supply. Fish are among the most traded food commodities, and in many countries, fisheries make an important contribution to sustainable in come. There are several factors that have contributed to the decrease in fish production from seas, oceans and other water bodies, including but not limited to the following:
- 1The increasing rise in the price of fuel.
- Marine Pollution as a result of ship collisions.
- Young people’s reluctance to practice this arduous profession.
- Market demand increases with the increase in population.
- Technical progress in the field of fishing has led to a decrease in natural fish stocks in the seas. And the oceans.
- Overfishing, which has depleted aquatic livestock while they are still young.
- Not maintaining schools of mother fish in particular, until the end of the bleaching and hatching stage and the emergence of new generations.
Because of these combined factors, the development of the craft of aquaculture and its breeding under controlled conditions led to fish farming giving good economic returns.
Compared to what is caught in the seas and oceans, the latter requires painstaking research and great efforts, including sailing, energy and time, all of which are not required in the fish farming process.
In the farming process, improved strains can also be selected to increase production. Hydroponics can also be carried out on lands that are not suitable for growing crops and vegetables, and it can also flourish in semi-salt (brackish) water.
