توظيف ابن قتيبة لثقافته اللغوية ولغريب الحديث في كتابه (تَأويلُ مُختلف الحديث)
The field of linguistics witnessed a clear renaissance in the 13th century, as scholars from Basra and Kufa competed in the areas of grammar and language. They authored books that aimed to avoid mixing formal language with colloquial speech, and they exposed its dangers. They also warned against distortions in pronunciation, grammatical structures, sentence composition, syntactic analysis, and word meanings. This can be clearly observed through the examples they addressed in their books.
Ibn Qutaybah is considered one of the prominent linguists of that period, as he authored comprehensive linguistic works that covered various aspects of literature, poetry, and more. He employed his extensive linguistic knowledge in the composition of several works that served as extensions of linguistic sciences, such as “Tawil Mushkil al-Quran” (Interpretation of Quranic Difficulties), “Gharib al-Hadith” (The Strange Expressions in Hadith), and “Tawil Mukhtalif al-Hadith” (Interpretation of Diverse Hadiths). His aim was to defend the Holy Quran and the noble traditions of the Prophet.
This research aims to highlight the features of Ibn Qutaybah’s employment of his linguistic expertise, supported by examples and evidence. The researcher followed the comparative descriptive and analytical approach.
