The tandem style as a model – between Ibn Faris and Al-Thaalibi

The aim of this research is to show the importance of the synonym style in the Arabic language from the linguistic and semantic side as one of the factors of expansion in the Arabic language, contributing to the increase of meanings in Arabic. The problem of the research comes from the attempt to make a stylistic comparison of the synonym of two linguists who had a prominent impact on the theorizing of Arabic philology, namely Ahmed bin Faris and Abu Mansour Al-Thaalbi. To achieve this goal, the researcher adopted the descriptive approach at the beginning of his research to describe the concept of synonymy and present its importance, then followed the comparative approach to show the fundamental differences between the way of both Ibn Faris and Al-Thaalibi in looking at the style of linguistic tandem. This methodology required the division of the research into an introduction and three main sections; the first section dealt with the views of scientists in tandem, and in the second section presented the reasons for the emergence of tandem in Arabic, and then mentioned in the third section the benefits of tandem. The research reached a set of results, the tandem method is a linguistic treasure that can be employed in teaching Arabic to native speakers, and to non-native speakers at the intermediate level. The research showed that tandem is an important factor in the expansion of Arabic in terms of significance and meaning, and recommended the need to pay attention to philology and the statement of its aesthetic characteristics.
