The research aims to study and analyse the concept of social capital by clarifying its nature, characteristics, functions, sources of formation and obstacles to its growth in the social reality, in addition to knowing its positive role in times of societal crises. The research relied on the analytical-critical approach in studying, analysing, interpreting, and criticizing the subject of the research. The research also reached a set of results, the most important of which is that the concept of social capital expresses the ability of individuals to work together within a network of common relationships, which leads to maximizing the value of teamwork and achieving social cohesion and the ability to communicate, integrate and trust others. Social capital Societies that have strong social capital could consolidate the foundations of constructive cooperation among their members, and they also could develop and grow better in the future to achieve their goals of progress and prosperity. Finally, the research concluded through the study and analysis of the concept of social capital that we cannot activate its role and work on its accumulation in a society that suffers from the absence of the concepts of social justice, tyranny, backwardness, and ignorance. Democracy, citizenship, and real development are the basis for the formation of social capital. In the end, the research recommended the need to establish a democratic society and work to encourage the process of political empowerment and political participation for all members of society, in addition to activating civil society institutions as the primary platform for the formation of social capital. Finally, the research recommended the need to hold seminars and awareness programs through cultural centers and social media to raise the level of awareness of community members of the importance of social capital in social life, especially during the time of crises that afflict the country, where the presence of social capital among individuals is considered a basic indicator to determine the ability and interdependence of And the cohesion of society to overcome adversity, crises and challenges in times of pandemics and tribulations.
